Outreach Activities

There are several ways that individuals can stay informed about the Study’s progress and to share comments and insights. Public input received will be considered by the Study team. The County wants to develop a project that not only meets the transportation needs of the Avalon Road area but is also supported by the community it is intended to serve. The key outreach activities are described below.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, income, disability, or familial status. Persons who require language translation or interpretive services, which are provided at no cost, should contact Ricardo Daye, Orange County Title VI/Nondiscrimination Coordinator, at (407) 836-5825 or by email at ricardo.daye@ocfl.net at least seven (7) days prior to a public meeting. Study Newsletters

Issue No. 1 - March 2018

A Study newsletter has been created for the Avalon Road RCA Study. Five editions will be published, and each edition will provide information on the Study’s progress and announce upcoming meetings.

Newsletters will be mailed via U.S. postal service to adjacent property owners. Individuals may also request a copy of the newsletter by email by completing the form on the Contact Us page.

Community Meetings

Two community meetings will be held during the Study at locations in or near the Avalon Road RCA Study area.

Community Meeting No. 1 was held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the City of Winter Garden City Hall (300 W. Plant Street, Winter Garden), from 6 to 8 p.m. The meeting began with an open house at 6 p.m. and there was a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m. followed by a question-and-answer forum. Maps and displays depicting project information were available for public review and comment.

The County invites you to attend Community Meeting No. 2 to review the preferred alternative under consideration and provide input. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the City of Winter Garden City Hall, located at 300 W. Plant St., Winter Garden, from 6 to 8 p.m. The meeting will begin with an open house at 6 p.m. There will be a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m. followed by a question-and-answer forum. Maps and displays depicting project information will be available for public review and comment. Project representatives will also be present to discuss the study and answer any questions.

Each community meeting will be publicly noticed at least two weeks before the meeting date through the Study newsletter (mailings and emails), newspaper advertisements (Orlando Sentinel and El Sentinel), Study website, and County press releases.

Orange County Local Planning Agency/Planning and Zoning Commission

Study findings and recommendations as well as a summary of public feedback will be presented to the LPA/PZC twice during the Study: first as a work session agenda item (summer 2018) and second as a public hearing agenda item (late summer 2018). During the public hearing, a presentation will be given by County staff, followed by an opportunity for the public to ask questions and/or provide comments.

Orange County Board of County Commissioners

The Preferred Improvement Alternative, updated as appropriate based on input received during the LPA/PZC work session and public hearing, will be presented to the Orange County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) at a workshop followed by a formal public hearing agenda item (fall 2018).  Presentations will be given by County staff, followed by an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide comments.

Meeting summaries and additional follow up documentation will be posted as they become available. The County encourages interested persons to continue to visit this website for Study updates.
